Swiss Cryotherapy Systems
Cryolymp designs and builds liquid-nitrogen cryosaunas. Available to buy or rent for sports centres, clinics and spas across Europe.
Our cryosauna
We build only one type of unit: the liquid-nitrogen cryosauna. Here is why.
Liquid nitrogen boils at −196 °C. It reaches air temperatures that electric chambers, limited to around −160 °C, cannot produce.
Cold is produced on demand as the nitrogen evaporates. No long cool-down before opening: the cabin is ready within minutes and a session lasts 1 to 3 minutes.
Clients breathe the room air, never the cold air. The operator keeps eye and voice contact throughout the session, and the feeling of confinement is reduced.
With no heavy refrigeration unit, the cryosauna fits in a standard room and uses little electricity.

Comparing technologies
Each technology has its strengths. This table sums up the differences that matter to an operator.
| Technology | Temperature | Typical duration | Head | Start-up | Footprint |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nitrogen cryosauna · Cryolymp | ≈ −170 °C | 1–3 min | Out of the cold | Fast, cold on demand | Compact |
| Electric whole-body chamber | −110 °C (max. ≈ −160 °C*) | 2–4 min | In the cold air | Long cool-down | Dedicated room |
| Cold water immersion | Water at 8–15 °C | 10–15 min | Out of the water | Filling and water hygiene | Tub or pool |
| Localised cryotherapy | ≈ −30 °C (air) | A few min per area | Not applicable | Immediate | Mobile |
* Maximum stated by manufacturers (Bouzigon et al., Journal of Thermal Biology, 2016). Most studies in electric chambers use −110 °C.
The body cools faster the wider the gap between skin temperature and air temperature. That is why we chose liquid nitrogen.
At −170 °C the gap is 40% wider than at −110 °C, the temperature of most electric chambers.
Researchers aim for a skin temperature of about 13.6 °C, the threshold linked to pain relief. At electric-chamber temperatures it takes almost 4 minutes to get there (Jdidi 2024). A wider temperature gap allows shorter sessions of 1 to 3 minutes.
At −180 °C, 3 minutes in a cryosauna reduced night-time restlessness in professional footballers, with the effect growing with exposure time (Douzi 2019). Between −140 and −195 °C, daily sessions reduced pain and better preserved the speed of muscle contraction after intense exercise (Fonda 2013).
In a cryosauna, 3 minutes of cold raised NK immune cells in the blood by 167%, against 58% after 3 minutes in a cold bath (Rose 2023). Four cryosauna sessions also lowered markers of muscle damage after exercise (Wolska 2023).
Research has not yet compared −110 °C and −170 °C head to head on clinical outcomes. Each study cited describes the effects seen with its own protocol.Sources : Jdidi 2024 ↗Douzi 2019 ↗Fonda 2013 ↗Rose 2023 ↗Wolska 2023 ↗

Elite swimmers during intense training: 5 daily 3-minute sessions at −110 °C improved perceived wellness, reduced inflammation and lengthened deep sleep.

30 men, randomised cross-over trial: the 13.6 °C analgesic skin threshold was reached in about 4 minutes, slightly faster in overweight participants. Skin was still cooler than baseline 30 minutes later.

40 men, randomised trial: 3 minutes in a cryosauna (−110 to −140 °C) raised circulating NK immune cells by 167%, against 58% after a 9 °C cold bath and 29% with no cold. Preliminary findings, according to the authors.

31 martial arts athletes, randomised trial: four cryosauna sessions after fatiguing exercise lowered creatine kinase (a marker of muscle damage) and leukocytes, and limited muscle stiffness over the first 48 hours.

Cryolymp takes its name from the cold and from Olympus, the mountain of the gods and a symbol of peak performance. We design and build liquid-nitrogen cryosaunas for sports, health and wellness professionals.
Because we build our own units, we remain your contact from the technical survey to maintenance, in French, German, English, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.
Frequently asked questions
The head stays outside the cabin, so clients breathe room air. A trained operator is present throughout the session, which can be stopped at any moment. The room must be ventilated and fitted with an oxygen detector; we size both with you during the technical survey.
Liquid nitrogen is delivered in tanks by an industrial gas supplier near you. We help you estimate consumption and organise supply.
A standard room is enough, with suitable ventilation and access for tank deliveries. We carry out a technical survey before every quote.
Yes, throughout Europe. We organise transport, installation and commissioning and itemise them in the quote.
Yes. Commissioning includes training: running sessions, the health questionnaire, contraindications, nitrogen handling and what to do if something goes wrong.
Buying pays off over time. Renting protects your cash flow and includes maintenance. Short-term rental suits a one-off need or a trial of the cryosauna.
Requirements vary by country and by use (wellness, sport or medical). We tell you which standards apply to your project. Medical advice is recommended before any session.
